Job Summary

As a Server at Smithfield Station, you will play a key role in delivering exceptional customer service and creating memorable dining experiences for our guests. Your primary objective will be to provide proper table service to dining guests in a timely and efficient fashion.

Key Responsibilities

• Promote and act in a manner consistent with the mission of Smithfield Station: Providing absolutely the most enjoyable eating and sleeping experience possible to our patrons through outstanding service, superb product and great personalities in a unique, comfortable setting...every day...RIGHT NOW.
• Monitor and observe guests' dining experiences to ensure they are satisfied with the food and service, and respond promptly and courteously to correct any problems.
• Present menus to guests and answer questions about menu items, beverages, and other restaurant functions and services.
• Inform guests of menu changes and daily specials, and make recommendations you genuinely feel your guests will enjoy.
• Describe and recommend wines to guests.
• Take food or beverages orders from guests.
• Write guests' food orders on order slips or memorize orders, then enter orders into computers for transmittal to kitchen staff.
• Check guests' identification to ensure they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages.
• Serve food and beverages to guests, and prepare or serve specialty dishes at tables as required.
• Prepare checks that itemize and total meal costs and sales taxes.
• Collect cash, credit card, and gift card payments from guests.
• Clean tables or counters after guests have finished dining.
• Prepare hot, cold, and mixed drinks for guests, and chill bottles of wine.
• Roll silverware, set up food stations and/or dining areas to prepare for the next shift or for large parties.
• Stock service areas with supplies such as coffee, food, tableware, and linens.
• Prepare tables for meals, including setting up items such as linens, silverware, and glassware.
• Remove dishes and glasses from tables or counters, and take them to kitchen for cleaning.
• Assist host or hostess by answering phones to take reservations or to-go orders, and by greeting, seating, and thanking guests.
• Perform cleaning duties, such as sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpet, tidying up server station, taking out trash, and checking and cleaning bathroom.
• Bring wine selections to tables with appropriate glasses and pour the wine for guests.
• Perform food preparation duties such as preparing salads for large parties/groups, portioning desserts, and brewing coffee.
• Escort guests to their tables.
• Fill salt, pepper, and sugar.
• Thank guests for their visit and invite them to return.
• Attend all scheduled employee meetings and offer suggestions for improvement.
• Coordinate with and assist fellow employees to meet guests' needs and support the operation of the restaurant.
• Fill in for fellow employees where needed to ensure guest service standards and efficient operations.
