Responsibilities :
Develops technology and process knowhow to ensure designs are technologically competitiveCreate detailed connector contact and cable designsLead / support group design reviews using calculations experimental results or other verification methodsInterpret product specifications and translate them into design and / or manufacturing requirementsCoordinate the construction of functional and nonfunctional prototypes with internal and external vendorsManage / support project management of all assigned tasks. Establish timelines for all project tasks and followup with project team on task statusProvide technical support to organizational stakeholders including Manufacturing Quality Marketing and SalesPerform root cause analyses utilizing established problemsolving tools and methodologiesSupport Sales and Marketing in preparing quotations and bid packagesDemonstrate behaviors consistent with the Smiths Way value systemQualifications :
Technical Knowledge Skills and Abilities :
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5 years of relevant experienceCapable use of SolidWorks modeling drawing and mechanical simulation packagesExperience selecting engineering grade polymers metals platings composites and alloysDesign for manufacturability utilizing machining molding turning stamping and / or additive manufacturing methodsKnowledge of contact termination strain relief and overmolding techniques and principlesHandson prototype development experience and rapid prototypingApplication of FMEA and tolerance analysis tools (including application of GD&T) to inform robust design decisionsAwareness of EMI / RF shielding and IPXX sealing techniques beneficialKnowledge of RF digital fiber optic and power interconnectsExperience working with medical applications highly desirableFamiliarity with ISO13485 ISO9001 IEC 60601 and EIA364Planning and Decision Making :
Coordinates with cross functional project team to ensure milestones are achieved and risks are mitigatedSuggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment systems tools and process to increase organizational efficiencyAnalyzes and resolves work problems and / or assists others in solving work problemsSets priorities and drives completion of needed deliverables with minimal assistanceUtilizes experience analytical capacity problem solving tools and judgment to plan and accomplish goalsAdditional Information :

Ability to communicate complex technical concepts in verbal and written form using the English languageFrequently required to use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand walk sit and talk or hear.Must occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.Ability to be able to travel to Mexico for training twice a year.Up to 10% travel may be required for training and / or other business purposes including customer and / or supplier visits.
