Job Description
The Cost Accountant is responsible for providing comprehensive financial support to several departments across SII. The position is responsible for the accurate and timely reporting of results through balance sheet integrity and providing a rigorous control environment. Responsibilities include month-end closing, cost accounting, financial reporting, variance analysis, internal controls compliance and balance sheet management.
Responsibilities:
- Performs key activities for the month end close in line with the financial calendar & reporting guidelines.
- Generate monthly inventory reconciliations, inventory profiling to avoid over procurement, driving accuracy through management of the cycle count process, ensuring accurate recording, and understanding of inventory issues, scrap, and obsolete items.
- Ensure sound financial control procedures exist throughout the manufacturing site, conduct inventory audits and revise procedures as required. Maintain knowledge of the latest accounting policies, practices, and procedures to ensure full integrity and compliance of financials.
- Control and maintenance of overhead rate structure, support the annual rates review and track against actuals.
- Prepare relevant journal entries, analyse, and adjust accruals as needed, perform account analysis on various balance sheet and P&L accounts.
- Maintain and update Project Sales and Cost of Sales files to support the monthly process for reporting revenue and cost of sales.
- Support SII with actual cost data for projects and/or production items to include hours per unit (HPUs) as required.
- Support external and internal audit requests.
- Assist with developing and implementing process improvements.
- Perform other general accounting projects and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of accounting principles including GAAP and IRFS.
- Must have excellent PC skills to include advanced command of MS Excel and competence in word.
- Ability to simultaneously manage several objectives and prioritize as needed.
- Detailed oriented and strong analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently.
- Possess a positive attitude, hands on personality, and a desire to work with other people in multiple departments.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new software as required, familiarity with Oracle a plus.
- Ability to effectively present complex topics to division management and senior management
Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of business experience; public accounting experience highly desirable. Experience in manufacturing business for both government and commercial customers a plus.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Economics or related field required.
Security: U.S. Person required (U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident). May be required to obtain a clearance.
