What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Swim Instructor position at Smithtown Recreation?
Overview
The Smithtown Recreation Department has limited availability for swim instructors for our summer swim lesson program. The summer swim lesson program runs Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM.
As a swim instructor you should have prior swimming experience, enjoy the water and love working with children ages 5 - 14. To apply, you must be 16 years old by April 1 of this year.
Our swim lesson program is held at Smithtown Landing Country Club at 495 Landing Ave Smithtown NY 11787.
The pay for a swim instructor is $16 an hour.

Duties
- Conduct swim lessons for various age groups, focusing on skill development and water safety.
- Assess the swimming abilities of students and tailor lessons to meet their individual needs.
- Implement effective behavior management techniques to maintain a positive learning atmosphere.
- Provide feedback and encouragement to students to enhance their confidence and skills in the water.
- Collaborate with other instructors and staff to develop engaging lesson plans and activities.
- Ensure the safety of all participants by adhering to health club policies and procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pool area before, during, and after lessons.
- Communicate effectively with parents or guardians regarding student progress and any concerns.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in swim instruction or related fields such as childcare, sports coaching, or martial arts is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of swimming techniques, safety protocols, and behavior management strategies.
- Ability to work well with children and adults in a variety of settings, including health clubs or recreational facilities.
- Certifications in CPR, First Aid, or Lifeguarding are highly desirable.
