As an HR Generalist at SMT, you will be trusted with tackling essential human resource-related duties and responsibilities. You will play a key role in the primary support to the Human Resources team and our employees on issues including staffing, benefits, performance management, compensation, payroll processing and general HR policies and procedures. Working closely with our Corporate Human Resources Manager, you’ll gain an understanding of our internal processes and assist in improving them.
Our HR Generalist position is based at our corporate headquarters in Durham, NC, with a hybrid schedule, Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM.
What is Your Daily Impact at SMT?
- Performing duties related to new hire processes, payroll processing, applicant tracking and record maintenance, termination processes and electronic employment file maintenance.
- Preparing, developing, analyzing and maintaining reports for HR.
- Reviewing and reconciling benefit invoices.
- Tracking independent contractors and associated agreements.
- Assisting with writing and updating job descriptions.
- Creating and maintaining accurate employment files.
- Assisting in maintaining leave of absences.
- Assisting in payroll review and processing.
- Making recommendations for necessary process improvements.
- Supporting Health and Safety recordkeeping.
- Participating as a team member on HR projects.
What Do You Bring to SMT?
Here are some of the key skills and experiences we are looking for in our future game-changing teammate:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources (preferred), Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- 1-2 years of Human Resources experience with demonstrated knowledge of HR practices and HR regulations.
- Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with desire to work within a collaborative team and possess an interest in growing into other HR-related roles.
- Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills.
- Understands and demonstrates the importance of customer services to the organization.
- Demonstrates ability to influence and enlist support.
- Ability to maintain the strictest of confidentiality.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience with an HRIS (ADP preferred).
