What are the responsibilities and job description for the Logistics Coordinator position at Smurfit Kappa North America?
The Logistics Coordinator position is responsible for ensuring the successful movement of orders from vendors to our Distribution Center and stores; coordinating information regarding pickup and delivery details. This position manages orders and takes every measure possible to ensure that each order is delivered in full and in good condition on the date requested while providing the best delivery service at the lowest cost possible.
Primary Duties
- Learn relevant local and company requirements, rules and procedures. Strictly follows rules and guidelines and always uses the right procedure for the job. Promptly reports incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions or processes. SKNA employees regardless of level, position or tenure are responsible for upholding the safety standards regulations and policies.
- Manages day-to-day flow of machine orders, and updates Daily Production and Run Schedules
- Oversees scheduling and secures lowest cost freight for inbound and outbound materials that affect multiple areas across the company
- Negotiates rates and surge capacity requirements with common carriers
- Tracks and traces shipments by gathering information via email, phone calls and/or carrier website to ensure timely pickup and delivery of shipments
- Oversees the inbound delivery appointments for all loads
- Provides updates to receivers and stores/customers on the status of loads; also verifies loads have arrived on time and in good condition
- Leads yard inspections and audits, load planning and dispatch duties using both dedicated fleet and common carrier resources
- Oversees the optimization and daily routing of outbound customer orders
- Collects, analyzes and presents data for trends and works with the management team to develop, implement and execute corrective action plans with providers
- Analyzes data to find trends and opportunities to decrease spend and eliminate waste
- Maintains carrier ranking system using performance and cost for carrier scorecard
- Provides outstanding internal and external customer service through communication
- Coordinates with home-office Invoicing Team to ensure timely and accurate completion of weekly customer invoices
- Ability to work in a non-climate controlled environment
- Contributes to a clean and safe Facility
- May be assigned to other projects and duties
Job Qualifications
- College degree required, concentration in Supply Chain or Logistics preferred
- Minimum 2-4 years of experience within a fast-paced Logistics or Supply Chain environment preferred; retail experience a plus
- Transportation Management System (TMS) Experience Required
- Ability to travel 5% a year, based on the business needs
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and a safe manner
- Past experience with load planning, logistics, dispatching or operations
- Solid understanding of Transportation industry concepts and documentation, as well as industry trends
- Customer focused attitude with the ability to work in group environment or independently with a minimal amount of direction
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Displays orientation to profitability and demonstrates knowledge of market and competition
- Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet, web-based and job specific related software applications
