Automation Controls Specialist
The Automation Controls Specialist, Smurfit Kappa Forney Medium Mill, works with the Electrical and Instrumentation team and provides technical expertise on all control systems for the facility. This position works closely with Plant Maintenance, Instrument & Controls Engineers, Process Engineers, Environmental, Reliability, Operations personnel, and Capitol Project Teams on all process control opportunities.
The ideal candidate may be a recent Engineering or Technical graduate, or have experience in Software Engineering, Industrial Graphics Design, Ethernet Industrial Networks, and /or Computer Programming. This position requires attention to detail, resourceful and rapid learning as well as the ability to adjust focus and redirect on the fly as needed. This position requires excellent communication skills across multiple departments.
Responsibilities Include:
Install, maintain and troubleshoot the following hardware and software:
- QCS systems
- PLC systems
- DCS systems
- AVEVA Pi Data Historian
- Process Control Networks
- SCADA Systems
- OPC Servers/Clients
- HMI Systems
- Virtual Machines
- Other miscellaneous control systems
Maintain and patch Windows and Virus protection software
Install firmware updates as required
Assure compliance with Corporate IT Policy
Implement and maintain control schemes from single loop to more complex cascade strategies
Respond to control system hardware failures
Participate as required in project related activities
Create, maintain, modify and troubleshoot databases and graphics
Perform Preventative Maintenance on machine control systems
Troubleshoot and repair control system communication failures
Providing Technical Assurance for process control and instrumentation concerns at the unit operator level
Requirements:Required Qualifications:
Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions
2 or more years of experience with PLC, SCADA and IT Systems
Intermediate proficiency in reading schematics, loop sheets, P&ID's and technical manuals
Working knowledge of instrument and electrical systems and control system theory
Immediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Windows, Excel, Word, Project and PowerPoint)
- Experience may be combined with specialized formal education
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate's Degree or higher in:
Engineering, Mathematics, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Information Technology
2 or more years of experience in configuring, interpreting, and troubleshooting PLC logic
2 or more years of experience in the installation, use, and maintenance of Programmable Logic Controllers
2 or more years of experience with IT Systems and Ethernet networks
- Experience may be combined with specialized formal education
