The Receiving Assistant plays a vital role in our warehouse operations, ensuring safe and efficient work practices at all times. This position requires adherence to ISO 9001 procedures and Group Health & Safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Learns and complies with local and company regulations, guidelines, and procedures. Reports incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions or processes promptly.
- Schedules inbound deliveries and ensures purchase orders are accurately documented on all paperwork.
- Receives product shipments, records quantities, and checks quality of goods received.
- Conducts weight sampling of corrugated sheets and rolls, documenting results as per specifications.
- Unpacks and inspects incoming shipments, rejecting damaged items, recording shortages, and coordinating with shippers for rectification.
- Inputs received materials into the computer system and forwards necessary documentation to accounts payable.
- Communicates with buyers regarding product returns and repairs.
- Verifies and maintains records of incoming shipments, comparing identifying information, counts, weights, or measures against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other relevant records.
- Determines shipment methods, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
- Affixes shipping labels onto packed cartons or stencils shipping information onto containers using stenciling equipment.
- Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled ones.
- Inserts items into containers, using spacers, fillers, and protective padding.
- Nails covers onto wooden crates and binds containers with metal tape using a strapping machine.
- Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers.
- Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage.
- Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
- Monitors daily cycle counts to ensure all materials are correctly located both physically and virtually.
- Assists with month-end inventories.
- Follows all safety rules and procedures.
- Supports other departments and/or areas as requested by management or supervisors.
- Participates in training and development activities as deemed necessary by management.
- Trains colleagues to share knowledge and expertise.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Three or more years of related experience in a warehouse environment or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of computerized inventory control systems.
- Basic computer skills for data entry.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated individual (proactive attitude).
- Ability to work in fast-paced environments, learn quickly, and follow established processes.
- Good mathematical skills for calculations, including proportions, percentages, volume, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to define problems, collect data/facts, and draw reasonable conclusions.
- Ability to handle diverse situations effectively.
- Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
