External Auditor - Public Accounting Firm

Location : Jacksonville, FL 32256

About the Role

We are seeking a high-performing and driven External Auditor with public accounting experience to join our dynamic audit team. This role requires strong external audit knowledge, the ability to navigate accounting policies and procedures, and a proactive, analytical mindset . The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, high-achieving environment , is a quick learner , and excels at problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct external audits by examining financial records, assessing risk, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles.
Analyze financial controls, policies, and procedures to identify inefficiencies, deficiencies, and areas for improvement.
Review account books, financial statements, and supporting documentation for accuracy and adherence to GAAP.
Evaluate internal controls and risk management processes to ensure financial integrity.
Prepare detailed audit reports outlining findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.
Collaborate with management teams to implement improved accounting procedures and workflows .
Manage multiple clients across industries , with a focus on nonprofit organizations and businesses with varying fiscal year-end cycles.
Work within audit deadlines , including nonprofit EOY audits (January-May) and mid-year audits (July-October).

Qualifications & Skills

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (MBA preferred).

3 years of external audit experience in a public accounting firm (internal audit experience alone is not sufficient).

CPA or CIA preferred but not required .

Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and audit procedures .

Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, audit software (Thomson Reuters AdvanceFlow preferred), and financial data analysis tools .

Ability to think critically, problem-solve, and work independently in a high-achieving, fast-paced culture.

Strong communication skills and ability to interact with clients effectively.

Must be a self-starter who learns quickly and thrives in a high-performance, results-driven environment .

Government audit experience is not the best fit for this role.
