The Natural Resources Department is providing an exciting opportunity for a Summer Student Intern to work alongside seasoned Regulatory Scientists in the field and office gaining valuable experience while also contributing to Team's success in achieving important FERC compliance requirements. The Summer Student Intern will gain valuable experience in the fields of water quality, hydrology, aquatic ecology, and terrestrial ecology as they pertain to the successful operation of FERC licensed hydroelectric projects.

Intern Duties

Duties assigned to the Intern will be vast and encompass a variety of activities within the discipline of Environmental Science, including :

  • Assist with monthly water quality monitoring in the Sultan River and Spada Lake Reservoir.
  • Instrumentation calibration, maintenance, and operation. Downloading data, data entry for FERC reporting.
  • Assist with routine (bi-weekly) water temperature monitoring at 22 sites across Jackson, Hancock and Calligan Creek hydroelectric projects.
  • Managing / analyzing data for annual FERC reporting requirements.
  • Assist with routinely measuring water flow (bi-weekly) at 15 sites across Jackson, Youngs, Hancock, and Calligan Creek hydroelectric projects.
  • Download data, update files, and coordinate with Operations to incorporate shifted ratings into SCADA for minimum instream flow compliance.
  • Assist with noxious weed monitoring at Jackson and Youngs Creek.
  • Conduct noxious weed surveys, update GIS records, produce maps for FERC reports.
  • Assist with long-term Spada Lake Reservoir and Lost Lake, forest stand data collection efforts (bi-weekly).
  • Survey created forest canopy gaps, snags, and other forested habitat features.
  • Transpose data into databases, creating figures and tables for FERC reports.
  • Assist with other activities as needed, including Jackson recreation, Woods Creek sustainability center, education and outreach, community engagement and events.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older at time of application.
  • High School student or student currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or vocational program, working toward a degree or certification.
  • Experience / Education

  • Current transcripts, progress reports, and / or student enrollment histories are  required  at time of application.
  • Proof of student status for upcoming quater is required prior to hire. Acceptable documents include : current registration / enrollment notice, or letter of intent from Registrar's office, or student enrollment history, or tuition payment confirmation or cancelled check.
  • Must successfully complete the pre-employment screening process, including testing for employment (if applicable)
