Job Purpose and Position Overview:
The Electrical Engineer will design and implement complex electrical systems on commercial work boats and other similar maritime vessels, including power generation, distribution, lighting, and communication systems. The Electrical Engineer will perform detailed calculations and develop technical drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with relevant electrical specifications, codes, and standards. This role requires the significant exercise of independent discretion and judgment as well as a level of creativity.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Design new ways to use electrical power to develop or improve products such as electronic components, software, and systems.
- Develop electrical system architecture, specifications, and designs for marine vessels.
- Support integration of electric propulsion components (batteries, drives, inverters, chargers, etc.) in a commercial marine environment.
- Develop block diagrams, schematics, and appropriate details purchase specifications for marine electronic equipment including switchboards, distribution panels, generators, motors, and power management systems.
- Perform calculations required for implementation of marine electrical load analysis, cable and breaker sizing, and generators.
- Plan and develop applications and modifications for electrical and electronic components used in parts and systems to improve technical performance.

Required Qualifications / Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field with relevant shipyard and/or marine operations experience.
- Act independently with limited supervisory oversight
- Proficiency in Rhino3D with experience in AutoCAD or other CAD systems.
- Strong understanding of marine electrical principles and marine electrical systems.
- Knowledge of Class and Regulatory requirements as well as a fundamental understanding of good/typical marine practice and marine operational demands.
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose electrical problems for commissioning and repair work.
- Broad knowledge of and established relationships with marine electrical/electronics vendors, suppliers, and other crucial shipyard resources.
Certifications / Licenses:
- Professional Engineering License (Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering, or Electrical) preferred
- or – - Engineer-In-Training Certification (Fundamentals of Engineering) preferred
Physical Requirements:
Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced shipyard with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity. The individual will be required to be in production areas in the shipyard and onboard vessels. They must be able to walk to and from job sites, to climb inclined stairways and vertical ladders, to enter confined areas and tanks, and to work at heights. They may be required to work more than 8-hour shifts and/or on weekends. The incumbent must be able to frequently bend, squat, crawl, twist and may be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
Salary : $80,000 - $110,000
