Position Summary
Under the supervision of Carpenter Supervisor, responsible for performing a variety of building repairs and new construction involving building substrates and construction projects.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform repairs of building systems including, but not limited to: roof, drywall and other wall construction materials.
- Study blueprints, sketches, building plans for information pertaining to type of materials required and dimensions of structure of fixture to be fabricated.
- Prepare layout; mark cutting and assembly lines on materials. Erect framework for structures and lay sub flooring.
- Complete repairs on building components such as stairs, ramps, partitions and cabinetry; repair and install ceiling grid systems.
- Complete repairs and polishing of solid surface building elements such as countertops.
- Complete general furniture repairs that do not require fabrication or custom staining.
- Apply shock absorbing, sound deadening and decorative paneling to ceiling and walls.
- Schedule changes to minimize project impact on operations and guests.
- Fit and install prefabricated window frames, door frames, weather stripping, and interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware; perform minor fabrication like custom picture and poster frames or drop boxes.
- Make drywall repair and replacement including demolition, stud and drywall installation, mudding and sanding.
- Assist the Facilities Heavy Equipment division in forming and pouring concrete slabs.
- Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level. Weld metal parts to steel structural members.
- Ensure proper barricading and signage is in place when working around patrons or in other departments to maintain a safe perimeter around work areas.
- Complete mold remediation when assigned.
- Practice SECR Hospitality Rules with every internal and external guest.
- Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
- Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

- Contact with requesting departments to clarify work request designs.
- Contact with other Facilities divisions for large projects that entail multiple divisions to complete the respective project as a team.
- Interact with Carpenter Apprentice to provide knowledge and training to support the apprentice program.
- Interact with Casino Supervisor to discuss approaches to job completion, needed materials and estimated completion time.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Three years of experience as a carpenter or five years of experience as a building maintenance worker.
- Experience with basic math skills to be able to calculate material quantities, cost estimates and dimensional knowledge regarding proper material selection.
- Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.
- Trade school or participation in a formal carpenter`s apprentice programs.
- Must have a valid Michigan Driver`s License and must be able to obtain and maintain a Tribal Driver`s License and qualify for coverage by SCIT auto liability insurance carrier.
- Native American preference shall apply to all positions.
- Knowledge of a variety of carpentry equipment operation such as saws, planers, routers and assorted power tools.
- Knowledge of the methods and practices used in preventive maintenance and repair work.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices.
- Knowledge of safety codes and procedures.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction and maintenance of buildings and structures.
- Skill in using logical reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternate solutions.
- Skill in effectively communicating issues, concerns, solutions in a concise manner.
- Ability to read building codes and layouts, construction drawings and blueprints.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to use hand tools and equipment.

- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must possess sufficient stamina to work under all types of weather conditions including extreme hot/cold and to lift, carry, push, or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials
- Exposure to hazardous stains, lacquers, other chemicals, and mold that require respiratory protection.
- Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
- Evening, overnight, holiday and/or weekend work may be required.
- Travel may be required.
- Frequent walking and standing in a smoking environment and contact with the general public. Constant visual stimulation via neon lights on slot machines, repeatedly changing machine video screens, static or flashing signs throughout the casino and constant machine and crowd noise.
