Aquatics Manager – Soaring Eagle Waterpark & Hotel
Position Summary:
The Aquatics Manager will be responsible to plan, direct, and supervise Soaring Eagle Waterpark’s Aquatics Facility and programs. The Aquatics Manager will assist in everyday activities and maintain the health and safety standards as mandated by state and county Health Departments. The Aquatics Manager will ensure that the waterpark operates in a safe, efficient manner; the appearance of the facility is fresh and clean at all times; that all team members including “Red Cross” Lifeguards are well-trained and conduct themselves courteously while meeting or exceeding service and goals. Although the Soaring Eagle Water Park & Hotel is an enterprise of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan, it operates under the Migizi Economic Development Company Policies and Procedures.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works closely with the General, Operations, and Marketing Managers in establishing ongoing operations procedures, programs, and marketing for the waterpark.
- Must be well aware of the Red Cross Lifeguard Training Program and adhere to all policies and procedures.
- Establishes and monitors the ongoing safety program, including conducting regular safety meetings.
- Displays, coaches, and reinforces the standards of Guest Service and Teamwork that are a part of the Migizi standards of service and behavior.
- Establishes and implements Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the Aquatics department.
- Ensures Soaring Eagle Waterpark is an asset to the community. Develops an organized and structured program to provide for the education, recreation, and therapy needs of the community at large.
- Develops and implements all operational procedures and detailed emergency action plans and oversees operating policies and procedures.
- Develops annual budgets and an effectively communicated measuring program. This includes monitoring daily activity records of all participants, events, cost control disciplines, revenue collection, and attendance records.
- Conducts regular meetings with various hotel department managers to ensure good communications with waterpark operations.
- Conducts daily and frequent site inspections to ensure that the highest possible standards of safety, courtesy, cleanliness, and efficiency are met.
- Manages guest complaints and concerns and ensures that guests and team members comply with rules, regulations, policies, and safety standards.
- Responsible for hiring, training, and scheduling qualified lifeguards, instructors, and all other waterpark team members.
- Oversees aquatic training; water safety, first aid, CPR, and lifeguard training including administering emergency oxygen (AEO) training, and testing of the lifeguard team to ensure the highest Lifeguarding standards are met. Must ensure that all certifications of team members are maintained.
- Responsible for overseeing bi-weekly in-service training for all lifeguards and supervisors to include practice of lifeguarding skills training and continued AEO training.
- Develops a lifeguard deck rotational system for monitoring the waterpark and all other pool deck operations.
- Responsible for Zone Validation System of the waterpark. The Zone Validation System is a process based upon a lifeguard’s ability to recognize a guest in distress (in a form of a submerged manikin or similar stimulus) and be capable of reaching the extents of the Zone Protection area within 20 seconds
- Schedules all pool activities and private rentals to ensure optimum pool usage.
- Develops and schedules aquatic programming for Soaring Eagle Waterpark to include classes, swim meets, water matches, tournaments, swim lessons, and other aquatic programs as developed and assigned.
- Oversees the activities of service personnel in creating a clean, pleasant waterpark environment.
- Develops, monitors, and meets or exceeds the yearly business plan for the waterpark.
- Administers the Waterpark’s Autism Friendly program to include necessary training, documentation, and correspondence necessary to properly run the program and maintain certification.
- Ensures all First Aid & Incident Reports, and other pertinent data are completed in accordance with policies & procedures.
- Maintains a good working relationship with Tribal Fire, EMT, Tribal Police, City & State Police, and Isabella County Health Department to ensure good communications with Soaring Eagle Waterpark & Hotel.
- Works with representatives of the Insurance Underwriter and Risk Management Team to identify and correct problems and to defend the company in liability matters.
- Surveys patrons and evaluates programs to determine public needs and how to increase program efficiency and effectiveness; receive patron complaints and suggestions and responds appropriately.
- Must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Environment/Safety Hazards:
Required to frequently walk, stand, sit, and talk and hear. Occasionally required to use hands to find, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. including live rescue lifting and pulling guest up to safety. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the Team Leader occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, pool mechanical systems and may be exposed to wet and dry conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud in the waterpark facility.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
· Four (4) year college degree in the field of Aquatics Management, Park and recreation Administration, Physical Education, Management, or related field.
· Three (3) years of supervisory experience in an aquatics setting.
· Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or gain this certification within 6 months of hire.
· Certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, and Administer Emergency Oxygen (AEO) certification.
· Possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver’s license and Tribal driver’s license.
· Pre-employment background check and drug screen
Preferred
Two Years of Management experience including employee discipline, policy setting, and budgeting.
· Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor license.
· Certified Water Safety Instructor.
· Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan Tribal preference candidate
