Job Summary
Peer Support Specialists are responsible for providing support for individuals who are living in separate residences. Support Specialist assists residents with adjusting to living in a substance free home with others. Help individuals find resources and options in the community, network with community members, treatment centers, DHS, probation officers, courts, family and others who may be involved with the individuals.
Duties
- Advocate and support individuals, (both women and men) who reside in separate Soaring Heights Recovery homes. Interview potential residents to assess willingness and desire to work towards self-sufficiency, their recovery, and determine appropriateness for services provided
- Meet for individual sessions with residents as needed.
- Facilitate weekly house meetings and conduct monthly Unity nights.
- Provide structured living activities to help maintain effectiveness and harmony in the homes. Provide emotional support.
- Assist and monitor individuals with setting goals. Network with community members and agencies Oversee Urinalysis Testing
- Develop a professional, congenial relationship with natural support of the individuals as appropriate.
- Assist individual with developing a pro social support network.
- Be a resource as individuals look for employment and permanent housing.
- Document services provided.
- Collect statistical data as required.
- Assist management with other duties as assigned
Education
- Must have Peer Support Specialist (PSS) or Certified Recovery Mentor (CRM) certification.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must have a minimum of 2 consistent years in recovery from alcohol and drug use at time of employment.
Experience
- Experience working with individuals (both men and women who may or may not have children) who are in recovery from substance use disorders.
- Knowledge about mental health and trauma informed care
- Understand basic developmental stages of children or knowledge of working with children raised in homes where substance abuse has had an impact.
- Strong communication skills
- Experience in working with conflict resolution.
- Knowledge of community resources
- Must have own vehicle and valid driver’s license and car insurance.
Key Competencies
- Knowledgeable about Alcohol and Drug Addiction and Recovery.
- Communication Skills which consist of Motivational Interviewing and Conflict Resolution.
- Basic computer skill.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 16 – 20 per week

- Morning shift
- On call
- Weekends as needed
