About Us

The Society for Corporate Governance is a national organization of more than 3,700 corporate governance professionals dedicated to shaping governance and empowering governance professionals through education, collaboration, and advocacy. As a non-for-profit organization (Section 501(c)(6)), our role is to serve our members by providing practitioners with the knowledge, skills, and tools to promote effective governance to foster long-term shareholder value.

Founded in 1946, the Society for Corporate Governance, Inc. (the "Society") is composed of corporate secretaries, in-house counsel, and business executives in governance, ethics, and compliance functions at public, private, and nonprofit organizations, as well as law firms, consulting firms, and other members of the governance community. Members are responsible for supporting boards of directors and executive management in matters such as corporate governance, board practices, compliance, sustainability, regulatory and legal matters, shareholder relations, and subsidiary management.

The Society has 21 chapters located across the US. All Society members are assigned to at least one chapter, which is included in the cost of their annual Society membership. The chapters are a vital part of the Society, helping us to retain, attract, and provide value to our members. Through our chapters, we provide programs, the vast majority of which are in person, to over 1,000 registrants each year; we share exclusive content and benchmarking information; we provide invaluable networking opportunities for members; and we provide professional development opportunities through speaking opportunities and leadership roles in the Society.
