The Yale Department of Anesthesiology Residency Program, recognized as a cornerstone of excellence in medical education, is seeking a visionary Residency Program Director to lead its esteemed training program. This is a unique opportunity to oversee one of the largest and most comprehensive anesthesiology residency programs in the nation. With over 80 residents and exposure to 15 subspecialties, including cardiac, neuro, pediatric, and obstetric anesthesia, the program equips its trainees to excel in both academic and community settings. The incoming Director will inherit a program deeply rooted in a tradition of exemplary clinical care, pioneering research, and transformative education while being empowered to shape its future.

Housed within the Yale Department of Anesthesiology, which has been a national leader since its founding in 1968, the residency program benefits from its integration with Yale New Haven Hospital, ranked as the #1 hospital in the region by U.S. News & World Report. Under the leadership of Lisa Leffert, MD, Chair since 2021, the department is committed to advancing the field of anesthesiology through cutting-edge research, world-class education, and exceptional patient care. The Residency Program Director will play a pivotal role in maintaining this legacy of excellence, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and inclusion.

The successful candidate will be a board-certified anesthesiologist with significant experience in graduate medical education and a proven ability to lead diverse teams. They will oversee all aspects of the residency program, ensuring compliance with ACGME and ABA standards while promoting resident wellness and professional development. The Director will collaborate with departmental and institutional leadership to align the program with Yale’s mission, driving innovation in educational methodologies and research opportunities. Additionally, the Director will spearhead initiatives that prioritize diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, ensuring a supportive and enriching environment for all residents and faculty.
