For over 175 years the Buffalo Diocesan Council has been serving people in need in seven of the eight counties in the diocese and is now the oldest continuously operating charity in Western New York. Headquartered in a building at 1298 Main St., Buffalo, the diocesan Council is an independent charity, which serves nearly 100,000 residents of our community each year. As part of this, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul operates through our discount store, dining room and home visit services which provide food, services, and supplies to those in need, all with the mission to ease the suffering of our fellow human beings.
We are currently seeking an Receptionist/Office Assistant who will be responsible for interfacing with the community and our clients, often for the first time, as they visit or contact our Charity. This individual will be responsible for helping in the assessing needs of individuals who are seeking assistance and taking the initial steps from there to get them connected with the most appropriate services. This could include making referrals to other service providers outside of SVDP, or referring internally to any of our services, which could include issuing furniture/clothing vouchers for the SVDP Thrift Store, providing food bags, etc. This position will report directly to the Executive Director. Major accountabilities include:
- Customer Care and Coordination: Screening and Intake of new client for referral, voucher, and other resource coordination. Greet and ensure a positive experience for incoming clients and maintain record keeping for these activities. Answering questions regarding the Society.
- General Administrative Support: Community outreach, coordination with other events/organizations, conferences, basic reporting, database input, possible bookkeeping entries, general reception and office admin tasks in support of the Office and Executive Director.
- Volunteer Program Support: Screening and Intake of new clients (volunteer groups) for referral, voucher processing, internal coordination on volunteer activities, and volunteer experience management.
Hours and schedules for this role are flexible, with the targeted total hours per week between 30 and 40, with working hours needing to occur Monday through Friday, between 8:00am and 4:30pm.
Qualified candidates will have the following:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year experience in a position of similar scope- client interfacing, customer support, human services, administrative work, etc.
- Team oriented, high attention to detail, good communication skills to work closely inter-departmentally.
