Job Description
Socrates Academy, a charter school with a focus on partial Greek immersion and the Socratic method, is seeking an EC Teacher with strong teaching abilities, an understanding of pedagogy and instructional practices in adaptive curriculum. The Socrates Academy EC Teacher plays a critical role in the success of our special education population and reports to the EC Director while working closely with grade level teams. Candidates should be energetic and progressive minded, with a willingness to work collaboratively with grade level and vertical teams.
Job responsibilities include:
Full time teaching of students along the special education continuum. Teaching structure will be a combination of co-taught, small group and one-on-one and could be “push in” or “pull out” depending on student needs
Planning and management for students that require more intense support
Case management of students with learning disabilities which includes facilitating teacher and parent meetings, working with external service agencies, management of Individualized Education plans and related paperwork, and overall student advocacy
Consultations for students identified but not receiving direct services and for students who are twice exceptional Assessment of student needs and progress monitoring
Support teachers with differentiation strategies in the classroom
Promote the inclusive values and mission of the school within the department through a multidisciplinary team approach Promote use of assistive/adaptive technologies
Keep up-to-date on curriculum developments and trends in the field of exceptional children
Commitment for professional growth through participation in professional learning communities and development opportunities
Knowledge of FBA’s and BIP’s and implementation throughout the school environment
Job requirements include:
Experience in teaching outside of a basal curriculum
Extensive knowledge of the Common Core and North Carolina Standard Course of Study
Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment
Ability to think, work, and teach interdisciplinary content
NC Exceptional Children certification
Exceptional Candidates will:
Have at least 2 years of teaching experience
Demonstrate a passion for the education profession and supporting student achievement
Possess a track record of collaboration and evidence of effective teaching experience especially in working with students with exceptionalities
