The Superintendent of Converting is responsible for overseeing production operations within the converting department. This role ensures the efficient manufacture of high-quality products while adhering to budgeted costs and planned quantities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, operational expertise, and a commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of the converting department to meet safety, quality, productivity, and cost goals.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance performance and close operational gaps.
- Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and production teams to optimize processes and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational standards.
- Lead and coach salaried and hourly employees, fostering continuous improvement.
- Develop team members through training, performance management, and skill-building initiatives.
- Implement continuous improvement methodologies, including Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
- Manage department budgets and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Align departmental objectives with overall plant goals and contribute to site-wide initiatives.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in converting or a related manufacturing environment.
- Proven leadership in operations management or project coordination.
- Knowledge of the pulp and paper converting industry preferred.
- Proficiency in operational improvement strategies (e.g., Lean, TPM).
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Work Environment:
- High-speed manufacturing environment with exposure to noise and machinery.
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and climbing.
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required.
