About Powerflex Supply and Range Ward
Powerflex Supply, headquartered in San Antonio, TX, with a branch in Missouri and plans for additional branches, is an online retailer and supplier of electric fencing and livestock watering supplies, founded by experienced livestock grazers. It focuses on high-quality, performance-based products at competitive prices and was recently acquired by Soilworks. Range Ward, operating in both Canada and the USA, is a manufacturer and supplier of grazing machines, complementing Powerflex Supply's offerings and also owned by Soilworks. The two companies are in the process of merging to create a synergistic entity and improve service to our customers.
The Role
Powerflex and Range Ward are seeking an experienced VP Finance who is engaged by a fast-paced environment and the opportunity to help build a strong finance function. This position will be responsible for all accounting and month end close activities for both aforementioned companies as well as accounting operations, cost accounting, FP&A, budgeting and forecasting and related supporting areas.
Key objectives for this role:
- Leading Financial Activities: Driving improvements in reporting, forecasting, and budgeting to facilitate strategic decision-making among the management team, ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Financial Leadership and Management: Overseeing cash activities and payables, ensuring efficient financial operations and liquidity to meet operational needs.
- Collaboration with CEO: Working closely with the CEO to ensure financial goals are achievable and aligned with the company's cash position, a critical aspect in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
- Enhancing Efficiency: Improving analytics for purchase processes, leveraging offshore resources, and mentoring the finance team to increase functional capabilities, which is essential for scalability.
- Strategic Vision and Leadership: Developing and implementing a financial strategy that supports execution for both Powerflex and Range Ward, including managing the financial integration of the two companies and preparing for future acquisitions. This involves leading financial due diligence, assessing financial impacts, and ensuring alignment with Soilworks' investment objectives.
- Real-Time Financial Data: Establishing systems to provide up-to-date financial information to Sales, Marketing, Operations, and Leadership teams, enabling informed decision-making and awareness of financial positions.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Developing and implementing measurement tools for key performance indicators across finance functions, ensuring accountability and performance tracking.
- Achieving aggressive goals for marketing, sales, inventory control, and production, which are critical for driving enterprise value and sales, aligning with private equity expectations for growth.
- Leading negotiations for capital equipment and high-value operational expenses, ensuring cost-effective resource allocation.
- Developing purchase order procedures and policies for procurement across both companies, enhancing operational efficiency.
- Collaborating with other portfolio companies to provide requested data and assist in achieving portfolio-wide objectives, reflecting the interconnected nature of private equity holdings.
- Ensuring adherence to inventory controls, including cycle counts for raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods, to secure accuracy and control, which is vital for financial reporting and operational efficiency.
- Providing insights on financial outlooks to maximize cash flow, leveraging company assets to support growth initiatives.
- Overseeing the financial integration of Powerflex and Range Ward, ensuring a unified and efficient financial structure, which involves consolidating accounting systems, aligning financial reporting, and managing tax implications.
- Leading financial due diligence for future acquisitions, assessing their financial viability, strategic fit, and impact on the company's balance sheet, working in conjunction with Soilworks' Deal Development team.
- Developing and presenting financial reports and strategic plans to Soilworks' board, maintaining transparency and alignment with their expectations, which is crucial for private equity oversight and value creation.
- Managing cash flow to support growth strategies, including funding for mergers, acquisitions, and organic growth initiatives, ensuring sufficient liquidity for strategic moves.
- Identifying and mitigating financial risks associated with mergers and acquisitions, such as integration costs, valuation discrepancies, and regulatory compliance, to maintain a robust balance sheet.
- Masters degree in Accounting or related field
- Active licensed Certified Public Accountant preferred
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in GL Accounting
- Prior finance leadership experience
- Expert knowledge and understanding of US GAAP
- Experience collaborating with other business units to drive business objectives
- Experience in manufacturing business and/or high-volume product distribution business
- Expert Microsoft Excel skills required
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Experience with Quickbooks, and ERP implementation preferred
