The Supervisor, Maintenance plans, supervises, and participates in a variety of field maintenance and repair work involving water conveyance facilities and distribution systems. This position primarily oversees work related to repair, maintenance, and capital improvement projects of agricultural, industrial, and treated water systems throughout the district. The Supervisor, Maintenance works closely with other district departments to ensure safe and reliable water deliveries. This position is responsible for maintaining daily records of equipment, personnel, and materials used for each maintenance project, while ensuring compliance with appropriate laws, rules, and regulations.


The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They will have supervisory experience and knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of water distribution systems. A successful candidate will have strong time management skills, demonstrating the ability to change priorities quickly, in the event of an emergency or special assignment.


Qualifications

Any combination of training, education and experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities stated above and the ability to perform the duties of the position.


Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by specialized training in water supply and distribution systems or a related field.


Experience: Three (3) years of related experience in public works or public water system construction, operation and maintenance work, including two years supervisory responsibility.


Certifications:

  • Possession of a Distribution Level D3 certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board is required upon appointment.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain and maintain, a Distribution Level D4 certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board within two years of appointment. Failure to obtain certification may be grounds for termination.
  • A California State Water Resources Control Board Treatment Level T2 certification and training in Cross-Connection Control are highly desirable.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid and appropriate California driver license with a satisfactory driving record to maintain insurability. Possession of Class A or Class B drivers’ license is desirable.

Benefits

  • Cost of Living Adjustments (COLAs) - A 5% increase will take effect with the first payroll of 2026.
  • Retirement - Solano Irrigation District participates in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS).
    • Classic CalPERS Members - benefits include equivalency of 2%@60 formula with the following provisions: final compensation is the monthly average of highest 36 consecutive months; and credit for unused sick leave. Employees pay 7% Employee Contribution.
    • New CalPERS Members – benefits include equivalency of 2%@62 formula with the following provisions: three-year final compensation period used to calculate the average final compensation; and credit for unused sick leave. Employee pays 6.75% Employee Contribution.
  • Retiree Health Insurance – Employees are eligible for retiree health insurance benefits following 10 years of full-time service.
  • Deferred Compensation – 457 plan available, with Employer match up to $100 per pay period.
  • Health Insurance – Plans include Anthem Blue Cross HMO and PPO plans and a Kaiser Permanente plan. The District pays a portion of the premium for employee and dependent coverage.
  • Dental Insurance – Dental provider is Delta Dental. District pays full premium for both employee and dependents.
  • Vision Insurance – Vision provider is VSP. District pays full premium for both employee and dependents.
  • Life Insurance – Benefit is equal to 2x annual base salary rounded to the next higher $1,000, up to a maximum of $300,000. Premium is paid by the District.
  • Educational Assistance – District reimburses up to $450 per calendar year for eligible expenses.
  • Flexible Spending Account – Tax deferred payments for dependent care, health care, and certain benefit premiums.
  • Supervisors’ Standby Duty – Employees in the Supervisory Group are responsible to stand the Supervisors’ Standby Duty for a minimum of five (5) weeks per year. Each full week of supervisory duty worked will be compensated at a rate of $1,500 per week.
  • Administrative Leave Exempt Employees will be provided with up to 40 hours of Administrative Leave per calendar year.
  • Vacation and Sick Leave – Vacation is accrued bi-weekly at 80 hours per year during the first year. Employees accrue 12 days of sick leave per year, calculated bi-weekly.
  • Holidays – 11 scheduled holidays and 1 floating holiday per calendar year.
