Job Overview

We areseeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to provide exceptional educational services to students with diverse learning needs. The teacher will work collaboratively with general education staff, support specialists, and families to create and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) that promote the academic, social, and emotional growth of each student.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Provide direct instruction in a variety of settings, including small groups, one-on-one, or inclusive classrooms, based on the needs of each student.
  • Adapt general education lessons and develop instructional materials to meet the needs of students with varying disabilities.
  • Regularly assess and track student progress toward IEP goals, making adjustments to instruction as needed.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and paraprofessionals to support students participation in the general education curriculum.
  • Engage in positive communication with parents/guardians, providing updates on progress, strategies for home, and participating in IEP meetings.
  • Comply with all Massachusetts and federal laws governing special education, including adherence to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Use assistive technologies, behavior management techniques, and other specialized tools to facilitate learning.
  • Maintain accurate records, including IEP documentation, progress reports, and communication logs.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and stay informed about best practices in special education.

Qualifications And Requirements

  • Education:
    • Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Certification:
    • Valid Massachusetts Educator License in Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8) or Severe Disabilities (PreK-12) as required by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).
    • Passing scores on the MTEL (Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure), including the Communication and Literacy Skills test and the subject area test for Special Education.
  • Experience:
    • Experience working with students with special needs, particularly in a school setting, is preferred.
    • Experience in developing and implementing IEPs and using evidence-based instructional strategies.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of the IEP process, differentiated instruction, and accommodations/modifications to meet diverse learning needs.
    • Excellent communication skills to work collaboratively with students, parents, staff, and administration.
    • Ability to implement behavior management techniques and support students with emotional or behavioral challenges.
    • Familiarity with assistive technologies and their application in the classroom.
  • Licensure & Background Check:
    • Valid Massachusetts Teaching License in Special Education.
    • Completion of all necessary background checks, including CORI and fingerprinting, in accordance with state laws and district policy.
