Director of Disposal Services

The Director of Disposal Services oversees the management of departmental engineering and environmental programs, including methane gas system, landfill disposal units, leachate system, storm water system, and other facility processes and supporting infrastructure. This position provides technical recommendations and guidance to department administration, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

• Supervision: Manage consulting services and contractors related to environmental monitoring and construction, assist department administration with budgeting and scheduling construction, inspect sites, and coordinate with engineers and contractors.
• Planning and Coordination: Review and analyze operational efficiencies, oversee landfill gas extraction system maintenance activities, conduct organizational studies, and provide technical assistance for environmental management.
• Miscellaneous: Complete training and continuing education, coordinate subordinate staff to achieve operator certifications, and strive to improve relations with citizens.

• Thorough knowledge of materials, equipment, techniques, and tools used in the specific area of operation.
• General knowledge of safety hazards, safety measures, and safety regulations.
• Ability to plan, assign, and supervise work of employees, establish effective working relationships, and maintain a system of records.
• Excellent communication and project management skills, with experience in data analysis and reporting.

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, or a closely related field.
• Five years of experience in supervision and management, including budget responsibilities.
• Three years of experience in environmental or related fields.

• Professional Engineer License (PE)
• Class B or higher commercial drivers license.
• Alabama Landfill Operators Certification
