Job Overview and Responsibilities
This position will be responsible for assigned duties as well as require general awareness of surrounding operations. During the shift, the production supervisor may delegate certain responsibilities to the lead operator and utilize them to meet objectives for the shift. In this scenario, the transfer & blending operator must follow the delegated work instructions given by the lead production operator. In the absence of the shift supervisor, the lead production operator will act in their place, however with limited disciplinary scope.
The transfer & blending operator position is comprised of two general functions: blending/packaging operator and truck/railcar transfer operator. As there will be cross-training, an operator may be involved in all functions during any given shift.
Depending on the assigned function, this role will require an expertise on certain production operations, including: blending operations; truck and railcar loading/offloading; material transferring/handling operations; emergency response & cleanup; material staging operations; utility operations; process monitoring operations; environmental compliance operations; Delta-V operations, and quality control operations. The operator will need to alert supervisor of any unsafe practices of fellow employees; including utilizing the proper PPE.
Education and Experience
1-3 years of experience in the chemical or petrochemical field
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Basic arithmetic proficiency
- Working at heights (up to 15 feet)
- Lifts up to 55#
- Have full range of motion
- Work well with others.
- Forklift experience is desired.
- Basic computer skills (internet browsing).
Skills
- Must comply with all Solvay safety rules and company policies.
- Be able to follow company EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) regulations and report any deviations from such.
- Hold contractors and fellow employees accountable for safety compliance.
- Participate in hazard reviews, pre startup safety reviews, and management of change and provide input as a production operator.
- Participate in emergency response and cleanup operations.
- Fulfills production requirements by meeting job expectations; properly communicating status to supervisor; reducing waste and limiting spills, and; performing work instructions in a safe and effective manner.
- Must have a general understanding of: material flow, level, pressure, temperature, and weigh system instruments as well as pumps, tanks and pressure vessels.
- Encouraged to participate in employee engagement activities and be a supporter for safety and compliance.
- Ensure that production logs, specific to job function, are being filled out accurately.
- Follow company procedures/processes as written, including proper documentation (This includes SOP’s and batch procedures).
- Maintain a high level of timekeeping to ensure quality data for metrics.
- Be able to meet time commitments for this role.
- Provide assistance to the production scheduler.
- Maintain housekeeping standards to ensure a clean and safe workplace.
