Are you looking for your next career opportunity?! Somat Engineering, Inc. has an immediate opening for a construction inspector in our Brooklyn Heights, Ohio, office. We are seeking an energetic and personable inspector who is interested in growing their career in this field.
An inspector on our team will bring strong detail and analytical skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, solution-oriented knowledge, and a collaborative attitude that is essential for working in our multi-company and multi-departmental organization. They will work closely with our engineers and project managers to coordinate various field services. They are required to have some practical knowledge of science or engineering, and a practical knowledge of mathematics or computer science.
Some of the types of activities that they will be involved with are:
- Observe and document to ensure or confirm contract compliance
- Monitoring specification, monitoring materials, maintain records, and prepare daily reports
- Perform inspection with guidance on various construction items including but not limited to earthwork, bases, drainage features, HMA, concrete, structures, steel and other incidental construction work
- Monitoring traffic and safety controls onsite in real time
- Conducting field measurements, thoroughly documenting daily construction activities and materials, taking detailed notes in ink, and taking pictures
- Communicate with personnel employed by contractors, public utilities, city and county engineering departments or consultants regarding coordination and competition of construction activities
- Applying contract specifications in a way to be able to relaying contractor deficiencies observed to the appropriate individuals
- Precise and accurate measurement of areas, lengths, and volumes
- Use Software programs utilized in tracking and documenting quantities and items
- Performs related work as assigned
- Attend Project Related Meetings
- Reports acquisition, usage and writing
This position will require some out-of-town work assignments depending on the project requirements.

Requirements:
- Duties will require lifting, carrying and pulling in excess of 50 lbs. occasionally, 20-50 lbs. frequently and up to 10 lbs. consistently.
- Duties will require frequent bending, walking, sitting and standing.
- Exposure to outdoor work assignments in inclement weather, including rain, snow, heat, cold, hail, etc.
- Minimum of 0-3 years of experience
- Willingness to work in a team setting, be punctual, detail orientated, communicative
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
- Insurable driving record
Preferred but not required:
- Experience with Concrete Testing, In-Place Nuclear Density Testing, etc.
- Concrete Field-Testing Technician - Grade 1 – ACI, Density Technology Certified – MDOT, Concrete Technician - Level I - Michigan Certified
