Position Summary

The Maintenance Worker performs semi-complex maintenance and general repairs required for the upkeep of furniture, offices, buildings, and other structures. As an Essential Employee, this position is indispensable to the emergency service function of the division/department and is required to assist the division/department in meeting the operational needs

Essential Functions

• Moves furniture, sets up and arranges modular furniture, tables, seating/chairs and displays as directed
• Arranges materials and/or seating for outdoor events, including set up and operation of sound equipment
• Installs window blinds, carpet, tile, and shelving
• Repairs minor damage to walls, ceilings, windows, and doors, including the removal of graffiti
• Assists carpenters, electricians, painters, plumbers, etc. with semi-complex repairs, including but not limited to, gathering tools and supplies, cleaning work area and minor repairs
• Drives, loads, and unloads vehicles and makes deliveries and pick ups
• Maintains equipment and tools
• Transports materials and supplies
• Performs pest extermination
• Performs maintenance of fire extinguishers and fire suppression systems
• Shovels snow and/or operates equipment used in snow removal
• May be assigned work of other crafts as needed or in an emergent situation
• May be assigned to work as the Facility Attendant or in the Mail Room to deliver and/or sort mail in staff shortage situations
• Preforms other duties as assigned by management
  
  

Qualifications

Essential

• High School diploma or equivalent
• A minimum of one year experience in general maintenance and repair of offices, buildings, furniture, and equipment
• Ability to safely operate hand and power tools, taking safety precautions in performing the work
• A valid New Jersey driver's license and acceptable driving record
  
  

Preferred

• Class B CDL
