Position Summary

The Peer Recovery Support Coach will employ a set of non-clinical, peer-based activities that engage, educate, and support a consumer to successfully make the life changes necessary to recovery from a mental illness and/or substance abuse disorder.
Essential Functions
- To serve as a catalyst to recovery, supporting the recovery process and supporting the consumer's goals and decisions.
- Link the client to needed services and assist in navigating systems and addressing barriers to independence and recovery.
- Responsible for facilitating peer support groups.
- Directly accompanying the individual and walking them through new environments, services, and systems, when appropriate and necessary, providing advocacy and transportation as indicated.
- Provide education and utilize his/her own recovery experience to illustrate the recovery process.
- Build on the individual's strengths, interests, and capabilities to create a relevant WRAP.
- Document efforts and submit paperwork in a timely fashion.
- Maintain good working relationships with Richard Hall staff, professionals outside the program and with family/support system.
- Engage in trainings and activities, including but not limited to in-house training and statewide initiative, for professional growth and quality service provision to consumers.
- Conduct one to one supportive counseling and meet with family (or support system) when needed.
- Participate in team meetings and supervision sessions providing wellness and recovery, person-centered feedback to team as needed.
- Provides rotating 24 hour on call weekends.
- Participate in committees bringing lived mental health recovery experience.
- Provide support to other identified Peer positions within the agency.
- Coordinate with state-wide Peers in Involuntary Outpatient Commitment programs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Minimum of Bachelor of Arts. The lack of a degree will not preclude an otherwise capable person from serving as a peer counselor.
- Lived experience in recovery for serious mental illness and/or substance use conditions and sufficient experience to demonstrate competency in the science of recovery, the recovery process and useful supports and strategies, practice of recovery values, cultural sensitivity, community resource use and attainment, recovery plans, strength-based recovery planning and recovery goal setting.
- Able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekend, and holiday hours.
- Valid NJ Driver's License.
