Position Summary
The Peer Specialist is responsible for assisting individuals referred to CCBHC Health in Action grant to provide recovery support services that assist in developing personal and family recovery goals, assist the treatment team to determine the steps needed to achieve these goals, assist individuals in connecting to recovery support meetings, completion of a Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) and/or Psychiatric Advance Directive (PAD), assist treatment team members to understand the client experience, share his/her experience to support and strengthen the development of the individual. The Peer Specialist will assist individuals in navigating the mental health system of care, remove barriers to recovery, stay engaged in the recovery process, and live a full life.

Essential Functions
- Provide peer coaching face to face, in the community
- Assist the client towards motivation for individually based recovery by teaching and being a role model offering support which includes sharing their recovery experiences
- Assist the clients in creating Wellness and Recovery Action Plans and PAD (as needed)
- Serve as a recovery agent providing advocacy and assistance for the individual to obtain services that meet their recovery needs by providing outreach and engagement via warm hand-offs in the Center and throughout the community; if there is an opening to encourage them to participate in the recovery community activities
- Contributes to agency performance improvement efforts to assure treatment is in accordance with state regulations and accrediting body standards, collaborate/communicate with systems partners
- Documents all activity and correspondence in accordance with Center policy, state regulations, and Joint Commission standards
- Engage in team meetings and individual supervision and a 24-7 rotating on call schedule
- Works closely with the CCBHC Project Director on progress towards program goals and to ensure all data collection required for grant reporting is completed
- Engages in continuing education to maintain and develop clinical skills, meet agency competency standards and satisfy requirements for ongoing licensure
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma/GED
- Peer Certification (CPRS/CRSP) credential through the NJ Certification Board (or equivalent agency in other states)
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in providing services to individuals and their families/caregivers who have mental health disorders, co-occurring substance use disorders, severe and persistent mental illness
- Minimum of one (1) year experience working with adults with complex health needs and LGBTQ persons across various domains of care to address disabling or life-threatening issues, prevent adverse health outcomes and increase accessibility to care for persons of diverse cultures and languages.
- Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with colleagues, coworkers, vendors, contractors, and the public.
- Must possess knowledge in formal/informal community systems and resources.
- Must have knowledge of Wellness and Recovery Principles, Person Centered Care, Trauma Informed Care and Integrated Healthcare.
- Must possess a valid NJ driver's license in good standing.
- Lived experience in mental health and/or substance use disorders in recovery for a minimum of five years desired

- Knowledge of community resources and services and the ability to collaborate with other professionals.
- Advanced degree in social work, public health, or a related field preferred.
