Position Summary
The Billing Specialist prepares and maintains the financial records of the Center’s clients related to services rendered. The incumbent performs related financial tasks including preparing and maintaining client insurance records, files insurance claims and manages accounts receivables. Delivery of all services is trauma-informed, wellness and recovery oriented, and person-centered in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values Statement of the Center
Essential Functions
- Approve claims in EHR
- Enter approved claim data into NJMHAPP.
- Enter insurance and self-pay payments into EHR
- Submit hard copy claims monthly as needed
- Work on denied claims for third party payers.
- Complete client discharge (full and partial) from programs and /or the Center.
- Process Medicaid secondary claims.
- Process Medicare/Medicaid denied claims.
- Set fees as required.
- Enter prospective Medicaid clients into Presumptive Eligibility system.
- Enter billing information during intake process.
- Review billing charges for accuracy
- Run daily, weekly, and monthly reports as requires
- Retrieve daily cash from deposit box
- Reconcile and prepare daily deposit
- Process claim appeals as needed
- Provide coverage to front desk reception as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications
- Associates Degree in Accounting or 2 years of relevant work experience.
- Ability to work with culturally diverse populations
- Skill in the operation of office equipment, including but not limited to computers, printers, copiers, calculators, and other job specific equipment.
- Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with colleagues, coworkers, vendors, contractors, and the public.
- Ability to accurately prepare and maintain files, records, reports, and logs.
- Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheets, databases, and MS Word
- Ability to identify and maintain confidential information.
- Ability to comprehend, express and exchange information in English over the phone, in person, in writing or through other communication or electronic devices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of medical billing
- Bilingual Spanish/English
- Knowledge of the electronic health records system
- Candidates with lived experience in mental health and or substance use disorders and in recovery.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
