What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pricing Intern position at Sompo?
We are seeking Summer 2025 Pricing Intern for our Global Pricing Team in NYC, NY.
The Internship Program is a 10-week development initiative designed to provide professional growth with potential long-term opportunity for successful individuals interested in the Insurance/Reinsurance industry.
Pricing Interns receive hands-on training by working closely with highly experienced actuaries, gaining in-depth knowledge of the organization's business units and underwriting philosophy. The program combines on-the-job learning, workplace mentoring, and interaction with Actuaries, Underwriters, and other business members.
What can I expect as an Intern?
On-the-Job-Learning
Participants primary duties will be to assist developers in the Central Pricing Team develop web application-based raters, streamline processes, and test applications before they reach production. This will include gathering requirements, working with vendor platforms, and developing pricing models while utilizing both Python and JavaScript.
Activities, Learning and Development
Throughout the program, Interns will have the opportunity to hear from executive leaders, participate in structured, engaging leadership learnings, participate in networking events and activities with peers, members of our Executive team and outside brokerage firms, and be part of a project to present to their manager and mentor.
What will I need to be as an Intern?
Qualifications
For the Internship Program, we value candidates with a strong aptitude for analytical reasoning and technical skills, as well as intellectual curiosity, and interest in Analytics. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical and quantitative and interpersonal skills, good communication skills, and team collaboration. Additionally, we look for the following attributes:
Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or graduate degree program with a minimum GPA of 3.0
Strong academic background, preferably in a STEM major
Relevant Internship Experience Preferred
Strong proficiency using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Coding skills in languages such as SQL, Python, and R with related project work
Eligible candidates must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the United States without restriction
Salary Range: $20/hr
