We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Accountant to manage and oversee payroll operations for our health care organization. The ideal candidate will ensure accurate and timely payroll processing while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. You will play a critical role in supporting our staff—from nurses and physicians to administrative personnel—by ensuring they are compensated correctly and on time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process and review bi-weekly/semi-monthly payroll for multi-state health care employees, including hourly, salaried, and shift-based staff.
- Maintain and reconcile payroll records in accordance with company policies and health care labor regulations.
- Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, HIPAA standards (where applicable), and other regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with HR to ensure accurate employee data, including new hires, terminations, benefits, and leave balances.
- Prepare payroll journal entries and perform account reconciliations.
- Assist in audits (internal, external, workers’ compensation) by providing required documentation.
- Respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees and resolve discrepancies in a timely and professional manner.
- Calculate and process special payroll items including bonuses, shift differentials, overtime, and retroactive pay.
- Maintain confidentiality of employee compensation and sensitive data at all times.
- Stay current on payroll tax laws and changes, especially those impacting the health care industry.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 2–4 years of payroll experience, preferably in the health care industry or a multi-shift environment.
- Solid understanding of payroll best practices, multi-state tax requirements, and wage and hour laws.
- Experience with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paycom, UKG, or Ceridian) is a plus.
- Strong Excel skills and proficiency with financial systems.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification.
- Experience with unionized workforces or health care-specific scheduling systems.
- Familiarity with benefit administration and coordination (e.g., PTO, FMLA, 403(b) plans).
Compensation: $30 to $38 an hour
Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
