VPP & Key Accounts – Sales Engineer

 

Position Summary: 

The Sales Engineer is a position within the VPP & Key Accounts team. This team member possesses high technical and application related expertise of the sonnen VPP and hardware products. The Sales Engineer performs as a direct account management asset with deep technical, project management, and customer service skill sets.

 While working primarily in the office to support the Revenue Team, Field Engineering, Innovation and Operations, the Sales Engineer must have a deep understanding of all sonnen products, their implementation in the built environment and project management experience. This knowledge, specifically as they relate to our VPP applications is to be tailored to the unique project needs of our partners. This position’s work product is seen in the projects we propose, sell, build, and move into full long-term operation. In addition, the Sales Engineer will perform project management functions as they relate to their assigned accounts and stakeholders at their supervisor’s direction. In partnership with Project Managers/ Engineers, the Sales Engineer will provide the highest level of technical account management and support the implementation plans from the point of contract forward. They will contribute to project scope refinements and maintain key documentation. Under the direction of their direct supervisor, the Sales Engineer will be responsible for providing design guidance, collaborating with other sonnen teams/ departments, generating and managing support documentation, and supporting sonnen related aspects of VPP project construction.

 This is a light to moderate travel position, with approx. 25 - 30% travel to assigned account sites and sales calls as required. On sales calls the Sales Engineer will support the Revenue Team on all technical aspects, supporting collateral creation, overall program ideation evolutions and creation on a project-by-project basis. On site, the Program Engineer will compliment Project Managers with technical training, system design support, and overall program development as well as assist with technical support throughout the relationship phases. The Sales Engineer is primarily a mid to senior level point of contact for our project partners to assist them with the overall success of their operations and streamline the deployment of sonnen products across their assigned accounts.

 Key Responsibilities: 

  • Travel to visit partners throughout the sonnen Inc responsible territories 
  • Support internal team and external partners with technical trainings, installation/design and application support
  • Support the Sales Engineering efforts for the VPP Key Accounts Team including process and work product creation (eg: technical drawings, presentations, and training materials)
  • Create engineering solutions to application-specific challenges through sonnen team collaboration with both VPP and broader team members
  • Assist with sales and engineering tasks within assigned projects to accomplish key goals respective to the project phase
  • Drive VPP Project Management-related tasks to ensure, timely, scope aligned goals that are accomplished on budget
  • Develop and maintain key documentation as it relates to projects, partner programs, innovations, and specific ongoing activities
  • Maintain relationships with the greater sonnen team, including R&D, to ensure alignment of product evolutions via their supervisor
  • Utilize company provided tools to document activities and ensure proper data collection, sharing and implementation of designed solutions
  • Maintain and report on applicable KPI’s, project management activities, and utilize customer feedback mechanisms to ensure ongoing success with the role
  • Other duties as necessary to ensure high quality, proactive, customer focused accomplishments

 Qualifications: 

  • 2 years of technical product experience within solar, electronics, or technology industries
  • Prior experience in residential or commercial construction industries
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Engineering related field
  • Experience working within a high performing team where collaborative problem solving and knowledge sharing drive broader success
  • Proven track record in teamwork and time bound, high quality production projects
  • "Problem Solver mentality”. Someone who loves to understand and resolve difficult problems with little direction provided
  • Highly organized with the ability to clearly organize thoughts, schedules, reports, and databases
  • Ability to understand complicated technical information and communicate said information to non-experts
  • Enthusiasm, creativity, and a desire to learn
  • Intelligent, accountable, and self-assured mentality with a strong work ethic

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of technical product experience within solar, electronics, or technology industries
  • Master’s degree in project or technical related field
  • Strong interests in technology, renewable energy, and or energy storage
  • Strong desire to create solutions, drive team members to achieve more, and lead people
