Banquet Captain is responsible for the direction of all facets of set-up, service and breakdown of their assigned sections. Support and empower servers to take responsibility for their work assignments, manage accountability and regularly report feedback to Event Manager.
Responsibilities and Duties (included but not limited to the following):
- Upon arrival, report to Event Manager (EM), attend staff briefing, review Banquet Event Order (BEO), schematics and staff assignments.
- Know all details of event, including style of service, timing and VIP’s (names of bride, groom, parents, etc.)
- Communicate problems or changes to the EM and assist with the direction and ongoing training for all waitstaff.
- Ensure your assigned section is set-up per BEO and schematic, maintained and broken down properly after event conclusion.
- If assigned, create a large schematic for dinner service, confirming meal count break down matches the BEO and communicate with all Wait Captains and EM.
- Lead synchronized plated or family-style dinner service or set buffet (stations), add décor and food signage as needed.
- Report server success and/or issues to EM.
- Follow break-down and room reset instructions.
Schedule/Hours:
This is an on-call position, with day and evening shifts available seven days a week.
Expectations:
- A primary responsibility of your job is to make our guests and clients feel special.
- Accept or reject job requests from Staffmate in a timely manner.
- Arrive on time in appropriate work attire and prepared with necessary materials for scheduled shift. (See Policies and Procedures)
- Behave like you are on stage and your “performance” is being watched by an audience.

- Smiling, eye contact and verbal engagement are critical components of your job.
Qualifications:
- Education level: High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience: Proven ability to execute a fine dining experience for guests.
- Specific Skills: Leadership, Communication, Collaboration, Delegation and Time Management
- Personal Character: Respectful, Reliable, Confident, Organized, ability to Multitask and inspire others
- Certification: Current Food Handlers Permit (ServSafe Certification)
- Physical abilities: Physically energetic and able to stay on your feet for extended periods. Walk on uneven surfaces. Work in outdoor spaces with exposure to extreme weather conditions.
