Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Specimen Collection: Collect blood and other biological specimens from patients in various locations, including hospitals, patient service centers, and mobile diagnostic services. Ensure correct patient identification and specimen integrity using appropriate techniques for all age groups.
2. Specimen Processing: Accurately enter patient demographics, location, physician data, tests requested, time and date of collection, clinical information, and other pertinent data found on requisitions and computer-generated orders. Verify accuracy of entered information and appropriateness of received specimens. Aliquot and label specimens according to established departmental procedures and practices, delivering them to the technical area in a timely manner or perform initial processing and preparation of samples for transport.
3. Quality and Productivity: Focus on quality by ensuring all work performed is accurate and complete. Complete documents legibly and accurately per site protocol, following established methods and practices. Maintain familiarity with departmental procedures, using appropriate documentation to record communications. Initiate computer-generated reports as required for patient reporting and quality assurance monitoring. Meet departmental standards for productivity and quality as currently defined, actively participating and providing input to dept/system via committees or Six Sigma teams. Maintain acceptable specimen rejection rates and meet departmental standards for productivity and quality as currently defined.
4. Customer Service: Communicate courteously and professionally with internal and external customers, interacting with co-workers with an emphasis on teamwork and a focus on customer service. Resolve basic service issues, attending meetings and remaining current with internal/external communications, such as emails, newsletters, etc.
5. Professional Development: Participate in departmental financial responsibilities through the appropriate use of supplies and materials, avoiding excessive waste. Participate in department initiatives to reduce costs and improve service, demonstrating a commitment to error-free work environment and basic knowledge of billing.
Requirements:
• High school diploma or equivalent may be required dependent on state regulatory requirements.
• Basic knowledge of department resource materials.
