The Role
SonRay is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join our team. Reporting to the Payroll Lead, this is an entry-level role who will be responsible for payroll processing for one or more of our payroll groups. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who is eager to learn. Working at SonRay is like being a part of a family, so strong communication and a team player mindset are essential.
Specific Responsibilities
- Process full-cycle, weekly payroll for piece-work and hourly field and warehouse employees
- Print and review time cards and log into payroll database, follow-up on missing, inaccurate or incomplete time
- Process PTO, verifying time requested against available balance and calculating rate for piece workers
- Process expense reimbursements, verifying documentation submitted
- Process garnishments, performing calculation to ensure amount to be withdrawn meets legal requirements
- Process payroll for piece work using the company's proprietary application.
- Follow-up with operations supervisors and team leads on timecard related questions
- Cross-train on other payroll departments, train others and perform peer reviews
- Prepare job cost uploads and close jobs as needed
- Prepare retro and final checks as needed
- Print checks and stuff envelopes for weekly payroll
- Assist with other tasks such as updating PTO calculator tool with payroll data, preparing weekly wage reports and other duties, as assigned
- Collaborate with other departments to improve processes as needed to increase the efficiency and accuracy of payroll processing.
Competencies Required
- Problem solving – strong attention to detail, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Analytical - strong ability to gather data and identify patterns to ensure payroll processing is accurate and in compliance with state and local labor requirements.
- Communication – maintains frequent communication with payroll team and field operations to ensure weekly payroll deadlines are met.
- Planning / organizing – ability to work independently, demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness, prioritizes and plans work assignments, organized, and uses time efficiently to meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.
- Adaptability – adapts to changes in work environment, manages competing demands, and is able to deal with change, delays or unexpected events.
- Dependability – the individual is consistently at work and on time, follows instructions, responds to management direction, and solicits feedback to improve performance.
- Data entry and basic math skills are required.
- Ability to learn new software quickly.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bilingual in English/Spanish is highly preferred
- Administrative experience, payroll in particular, is a plus
- Construction experience a plus
- Accounting system experience a plus
- Google Suite experience preferred
