What are the responsibilities and job description for the Math Instructor position at Sophos Speech and Academics?
Sophos Speech and Academics is looking for a math instructor with a passion for students first,
and instruction second. Our instructors have the freedom to create a schedule that works for
them, and to be matched with students who fit their skill sets and expertise.
As a math instructor, you will work with students to help improve general concept mastery. While
our greatest need is for instructors who can teach middle school and high school math, we invite
all math instructors to apply. Our math instructors are trusted experts; therefore, they have the
autonomy to utilize instructional methods and curricula of their choosing. Many students bring
their classwork to the sessions and your job is to guide them through the content, and pinpoint
gaps in their knowledge.
What you will do:
Work 1-on-1 with students (or occasionally with small groups of students) who are
struggling to grasp grade-level math concepts
Collaborate with parents and teachers
Communicate effectively with students, parents, teacher, and Sophos instructors
Be available during some or most of the required times (2 pm-6 pm, M-Th)
Be able to commute to Sophos Speech and Academic’s Center
Be personable and genuinely enjoy being around children
Be able to listen well and respond to the data provided by teachers
Be professional and reliable
Ideally, this instructor would be confident in math, grades 7-12
