Technology Engineering – Software & Controls
Summary
Responsible for planning, developing, designing, reviewing, and validating new machine designs and process improvements/optimizations. Evaluates and continuously improves active production processes and equipment.
Responsible for providing technical knowledge and support for production operations. Collaborates with organizational leaders and customers.
Level III:
In addition to Level I and Level II responsibilities, leads multidisciplinary engineering projects. Responsible for making key project decisions, solving complex engineering problems with a high-level of knowledge in applicable disciplines. Collaborates closely with senior engineers and senior management.
Level IV:
In addition to Level I, II & III responsibilities, assists in identifying the direction of technology implementation across team projects. As a subject matter expert, has exhaustive knowledge in his/her area of expertise and advises personnel within that sphere of knowledge as needed to support company objectives. Collaborates closely with senior engineers and senior management.
Essential Job Functions:
- Technical controls, electrical, and automation support for new and existing manufacturing equipment
- Provides R&D for prototype equipment and new developments: component wiring, component assembly, benchtop testing, etc.
- Creation and review of panel layouts and electrical schematics
- Architect IEC61131-3 PLC code that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable, reusable and well tested
- Generate aesthetically simple HMI screens for complex machinery while providing feedback for troubleshooting
- Help establish methods of manufacturing for production
- Develops, documents and implements engineering / production process capabilities and techniques needed for operations
- Provide regular engineering updates to Senior Management
- Work closely with mechanical design engineers in development of mechatronic systems
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrates proficiency with PLCs, HMIs and debugging mechatronic systems
- Exposure to programming logic controllers and microcontrollers – Beckhoff controls and IEC-61131-3 structured text language preferred. Other equipment includes Automation Direct, Schneider, Siemens and Raspberry Pi
- Comfortable with object-oriented programming. Exposure to ladder logic programming.
- Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Ability to communicate with machine technicians and debug on the shop floor, communicating technical information effectively in English.
- Well organized with meticulous attention to detail
- Experience with C#, C or Python
- Comfortable with electrical cabinets and testing live components with a multimeter
- Familiarity with basic IPV4 networking and addressing
- Experience with electrical diagramming software (EPLAN) preferred
- Able to work in a team environment to solve technical issues.
Education and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering is preferred (majors include Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, Software, etc.). 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to periodically walk to other areas of the plant; must have good eyesight and hand dexterity, and able to identify and distinguish colors. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.
Work Environment:
Within safety guidelines, there will be exposure to noise, moving mechanical parts, oils/solvents, fumes, and odors that may affect the eyes, ears, nose, throat and/or skin.
