Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing payroll processes, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with accounting standards. This position requires proficiency in various accounting software and a solid understanding of payroll regulations. The Payroll Accountant provides support to the payroll division with specific responsibility for ensuring the completeness and accuracy of preliminary and final payroll reports, time sheets, ledger entries, and funds distribution. The Payroll Accountant also responds to inquiries and/or requests for data and/or reports; codifies the work through policies and obtains an understanding of the payroll system to accomplish the responsibilities of the position.
Duties:
Reconciles payroll account balances (e.g. time sheets, direct deposits, wage attachments, benefits, voluntary and involuntary contributions, etc.) to maintain accurate payment information/account balances and comply with established guidelines.
- Researches and resolves discrepancies of payroll and related information (e.g. time sheets, leave time, salary, supplements, longevity pay, stipends, FMLA, etc.).
- Responds to inquiries regarding payroll procedures (e.g. wage levies and garnishments, savings, contributions, direct deposits, etc.) for the purpose of providing necessary information for making decisions, assisting employees, taking appropriate action and/or complying with established fiscal guidelines.
- Prepares a variety of payroll-related documents to record activities for future reference and/or convey information to affected stakeholders.
- Develops/maintains reporting processes, procedures, and internal controls for the purpose of maintaining the efficient flow and compliance of payroll-related financial processes.
- Assists the Payroll Manager in understanding and optimizing the payroll processing system to ensure the system is operating efficiently, effectively, and accurately.
- Participates in workshops, trainings, seminars, etc. required to perform job functions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the Payroll division.
Experience:
Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: principles and techniques involved in payroll preparation, monitoring and control; payroll accounting practices; labor contracts and their impact on payroll; and other applicable County, State and Federal laws.
- Two years payroll work experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- Advanced capabilities in MS Office—particularly using Excel and spreadsheets.
- Excellent analytical and time management skills.
- High-level written and verbal communication skills.

- CPA

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
