Controller – Earthwork/Heavy Civil Construction

We are seeking a skilled and experienced financial controller to join our team.
Job Description:
As the Controller, you will be responsible for oversite of the financials operations of the company. Your expertise will guide accounting, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance practices, supporting the Company’s strategic goals and operational needs. This position works closely with key members of all departments and reports directly to the CFO.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the preparation of timely and accurate financial reporting, including the underlying accounting records, internal financial statements, regulatory tax returns, and other required reporting.
- Manage and supervise a small accounting team, ensuring accuracy and productivity in the Company’s financial operations.
- Implement and maintain effective internal controls.
- Work with external auditors, tax advisors, insurance providers, banking contacts and other professional service providers as required.
- Support project managers and operations staff with analysis, billing procedures, reconciliations, etc…
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. A CPA or equivalent qualification is desirable but not required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a financial management role. Experience in the construction industry (particularly civil) is a plus.
- Strong understanding of GAAP as well as financial reporting and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Proficient in financial software and strong Excel skills. Experience with construction software is a plus.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a dynamic (yet relaxed) environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of management across all departments.
