Minimum And Additional Requirements
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements
(Or an acceptable equivalence as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).

- Under general supervision of the Warden will be responsible for the all contraband interdiction efforts and the gathering of correctional intelligence.
- Conducts routine, unannounced, and/or pre-scheduled searches and shakedowns of inmates, living areas, grounds, and other areas.
- Assists the agency search team, special operations k-9 unit, and office of inspector general k-9 teams while they are onsite.
- Be knowledgeable of the logging and accountability process of contraband items.
- Completes necessary training to perform drug testing of all inmates and confiscated drugs.
- Ensures that all policies, rules, and regulations pertaining to the chain of custody are followed and that all evidence/contraband confiscated is logged in on the "unauthorized property log".
- Conducts at least monthly inspections/searches of all roof tops for weapons/contraband.
- Gathers information from institutional staff and inmates concerning possible contraband violations.
- Responsible for any other duties assigned by the Warden.

- Three (3) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.
- A degree in Criminal Justice or a related degree may substitute for Supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 1 year).
- Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
