It is the mission of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to impact and transform young lives, strengthen families, and support safer communities through targeted prevention and rehabilitation.
Job Purpose
This position will support the agency through the Office of Strategic Planning and Innovation in several areas: (a) grant development/management to further support agency goals, mission and vision ; (b) work in partnership with Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) to manage projects that advance the agency’s strategic plan to innovate practice and support decision making; and (c) work with IT to manage a team of students to develop their skills in data management and development of reports/tools for DJJ staff.
Job Responsibilities
Responsible for overseeing and/or assisting in the development of new and expanded evidence-based programs and services for youth in DJJ facilities and in the community to include writing grants and fostering partnerships with external organizations to secure resources.
Responsible for developing and managing budgets, contracts, and capturing grant deliverables as defined by agency stakeholders and other established criteria.
Conducts research for grants that relate to best practices and supports agency-wide initiatives.
Responsible for collaborating with CQI, IT and other applicable areas to develop methods to produce information to be utilized agency-wide and across DJJ systems.
Responsible for working with project leads to provide consultation and guidance as needed and to develop data driven products to support agency stakeholders.
Responsible for developing and managing an internship program that focuses on areas of data collection, statistics, research and information technology.
Responsibilities include oversight, recruitment and selection.
Utilize interns to support agency-wide efforts that support the agency’s strategic plans.
Manages and/or coordinates tasks associated with one or more projects as directed by the Director of Planning and Accountability, Chief of Staff or Executive Director.
Performs other related duties as assigned that supports the mission of the agency.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
STATE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience.
Additional Requirements
Requires a knowledge of program development, grant writing, research and implementation of evidenced-based programs.
Ability to coordinate agency efforts at the state and local levels with the activities of other state and local organizations.
Ability to produce reports and presentations utilizing strong writing, editing and analytical skills; as well as skills related to developing data driven products for end-users using SQL server housed data sets and other data management application-based tools.
This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with youth within the jurisdiction of Department of Juvenile Justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:
A master’s degree in the social or behavioral sciences and at least 5 years of experience in program development and implementation with an emphasis in information management in health or other service-based industries along with experience in grant writing, project management and planning and research.
