Job Responsibilities
Performs field inspections on new bridge projects and bridge replacement projects to ensure that contractor adheres to SCDOT plans, standards, specifications and contract requirements. Performs field inspections on various types of roadway items to ensure that the contractor adheres to SCDOT plans, standards specifications and contract requirements. Assists in all phases of Pile-driving and Draft Shaft installation. Documents all work performed by the contractors. Responsible for sampling materials and logging certificates, utilizing SharePoint and ProjectWise. Assists in compilation of As-Built construction plans. Mark up erosion control plans (SWPPP). Operating SCDOT surveying equipment in the layout of roads and bridges. Calculates grades and alignment to plan requirements and keep accurate field notes. Interviews contractor employees on federal aid projects and documents and maintains notes. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. This position may require travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
A motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
