What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transportation Engineering Associate III (61033035) position at South Carolina Department of Transportation?
Job Responsibilities
Provides assistance to ensure that the districts can perform QC within their inspection staff and maintain that function. Assists the BMO Quality Engineer in performing the inspection QA function for all bridge inspections performed by SCDOT inspectors to maintain timely, consistent, and compliant inspections statewide.
Assists in developing and implementing policy changes as needed with changes to FHWA requirements and general SCDOT business practices. Assists in coordinating training, field training, and host annual/quarterly QA meetings for SCDOT and consultant inspectors.
Performs independent/field reviews of bridge inspections for compliance of SCDOT inspection procedures and in accordance with the BIGD. Assists with consultant bridge inspections selections and reviews of inspection reports. Reviews bridge inspection team leader qualifications to ensure requirements are met and documented.
Reviews Critical finding forms, Consultant inspection request forms, and scour critical forms for accuracy and repair/mitigation efforts. Approves scour re-evaluations as requested. Reviews BIGD documentation to ensure conformance to requirements and standards. Coordinates potential mitigation with district, BMO, or consultants.
Serves in a short-term capacity as a team leader when needed for weather related events, bridge damage issues, and personnel issues. Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Performs QC on bridge inspection reports as needed to assist districts during staffing shortages. Assists with and monitors consultant inspection selections and reviews of inspection reports. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and three (3) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. May require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal business hours or respond to emergency situations.
