Job Responsibilities
Provides contract management of maintenance activities to include, pavement markings, resurfacing, full depth patching, and other various activities. Ensures all work is performed in accordance with SCDOT plans and specifications. Collects field data and quantities for Contract performance and accomplishments. Provides assistance to the supervisor in the areas of management of inspections with encroachments and contracts. Serves as an agency representative meeting with contractors, general public, and property owners answering questions, resolving disputes and satisfying complaints. Reviews technical engineering drawings and plans along with encroachment permit applications to provide the supervisor with recommendations. Reviews plans and right-of-way documents to identify and remove illegal encroachments from state owned rights-of-ways. Performs damage claim investigations and processes FOIA request. Reviews requests for driveway installation per SCDOT policy. Manages weekly progress and final inspections of encroachment permits, maintenance contracts and strategic goal accomplishments for compliance with SCDOT specifications to include shoulder, ditch, high/low shoulder plans and other road features. Assists during inclement weather and emergency operations. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
A high school diploma and two (2) years of progressively responsible engineering technician related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Attainment of a Technician Certification in accordance with the SCDOT Technician Certification Policy may substitute for six (6) months of directly related experience.
Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
A motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
