Job Responsibilities
Performs inspection work as certified in the areas of asphalt, earthwork, and concrete on all phases of complex projects. Assists project managers in making routine daily decisions concerning construction practices on assigned construction projects. Coordinates work between Contractor and the Department to ensure smooth progress of work. Ensures all data has been collected and compiled accurately on daily diaries and construction reports according to Department policy. Responsible for final construction plans on assigned projects. Ensures that proper sampling and testing materials are performed according to the Department specifications. Coordinates with the utility companies for the relocation of utilities on assigned construction projects. Assists in office and managerial procedures, corresponding with Contractors and Department personnel on assigned projects. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
A high school diploma and two (2) years of progressively responsible engineering technician related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Attainment of a Technician Certification in accordance with the SCDOT Technician Certification Policy may substitute for six (6) months of directly related experience.
Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
A motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
