Executive Director of South Carolina Timber Producers Association

The South Carolina Timber Producers Association (SCTPA), founded in 1999, seeks to

serve as the voice for timber harvesting and allied timber businesses to advance the

ability of its members to professionally, ethically, efficiently, safely, environmentally and

profitably harvest, produce and transport timber to meet supply demands of our state by

providing continuing education and training opportunities, distributing timber harvesting,

hauling, manufacturing and selling information, representing our members in national

and statewide legislative activities, supporting and advancing sustainable forestry

practices and policies, and aggressively promoting, supporting and conducting

programs of state, regional and national advocacy.

The Executive Director will provide strategic leadership, oversee financial management,

advocate for the benefit of members, and build partnerships across the state. This full-

time position requires travel throughout South Carolina, including regular presence in

Columbia during the legislative session.

Objectives of this role

  • Work closely with board directors and committees to assess and address issues

affecting the organization

  • Increase awareness of the organization by being the main spokesperson and
  • liaison with media focusing on organizations social media presence

  • Serve as association representative within the state and national industry, related
  • associations, and related government sectors

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with local, state and federal government
  • officials to monitor, seek and promote legislation for the benefit of all related

    timber harvesting segments

    Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the organization, providing executive direction for
  • program strategies and efficiencies, compliance, and quality assurance

  • Manage organization finances including reporting to CPA, develop an annual
  • budget, assisting CPA with all related finances and providing the board with

    regular updates

  • Plan, attend and conduct board meetings, district meetings and the annual
  • meeting for the benefit of the membership and the promotion of the association

  • Increase the organizations social media presence and promotion in an effort to
  • keep the association relevant and membership active

  • Maintain records for new and renewal memberships
  • Develop and organize the association newsletter for publishing and distribution to
  • recipients

  • Travel required within the state weekly and occasional out-of-state, overnight
  • travel required

    Required qualifications

  • Ethical, self-motivated / self-initiated
  • Effective communication skills with ability to work, collaborate, and partner with
  • other affiliated associations and industry related companies

  • Ability to lead effective meetings
  • Knowledge of business and / or association management
  • Budgeting and financial management for basic accounting skills to be in
  • conjunction with associations CPA firm

  • Obtain insurance license in SC within 180 days of employment
  • Register and maintain registration as a lobbyist for effective work on behalf of the
  • timber harvesting industry

  • Must be a resident or willing to relocate to SC
  • Maintain an office within 30 miles of Columbia preferred
  • Preferred qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills
  • Experience in political organizations, trade associations or related groups

  • Salary - $65,000

  • IRS mileage rate paid for personal vehicle use
