CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Minimum Qualifications:High School graduate or equivalent pass type 30 words per minute plus computer skills. Ability to read, write and understand verbal and written instructions. Basic computer skills
Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:
Provide services to patients of all ages within compliance regulations.  Communicate appropriately with the public, visitors, physicians, patients and other employees, including courteous, professional telephone etiquette.   This position is accountable for the coordination of laboratory’s front office, phones calls, receiving specimens, logging into LIS, bar-coding, taking specimens to appropriate work area.  Responsible for the work flow of front office.  Maintain an orderly work flow in a timely and accurate manner within the required quality control program to ensure quality patient care in a “high-touch” manner.  Performs clerical duties, charting, processes specimens for reference labs, tracking and packing of specimens.  Contact nursing service of recollections and take clinic specimens to out- patient for hospital number.  Order supplies from reference labs.  Operate copier, typing for department, audits, sorts, files, lists and logs. Maintenance of all office equipment.  Accountable for smooth office operation.  Logging of morgue. Good communication skills. Ten hours of continued education each year. 
A.  Professional Requirements:
  1. Process, file, sort & chart reports and forms.  Typing as required.
  2. Receives, logs, bar-code, and transport specimens to appropriate work areas.
  3. Notifies nursing service of recollections and reprints request to floors.
  4. Assist anyone who comes to the front counter or in the office area.
  5. Mails, sorts, and responsible for picking up and delivering to mail room.
  6. Answers telephone and take messages, place phone calls for pathologist, techs and director.
  7. Accurate computer data entry, including downtime orders, results, and acknowledgments.
  8. Checks specimens brought to lab, bar-code, log, and take to appropriate work area.
  9. Processes specimens for reference lab, packing, and recording.
  10. Charts pathology reports to floors.  Takes specimens to out-patient for hospital numbers.
  11. Assist nursing service, doctors, clinics, etc. in locating lab work, ordering and requirements 
         of lab testing.  Ensures specimen labeling.  Fills out reportable events and other reporting as needed.       
  • Make copies or sends through Cerner test results for physicians, patient, or other hospital areas.
  • Take specimens to patient upon request, i.e., gallbladder stones, etc., SNOP pathology cases.
  • Maintains morgue log book.
  • Must be able to use computer systems.
  • Maintain copier, fax, phone and computer.
  • Must use excellent communication skills and maintain 10 hours continue education..
  • Inventory and order supplies for office and reference labs.
  • Fax or sends reports to providers.
  • Reports any problems to Medical Secretary. 
  • Helps in training new office personnel
