What are the responsibilities and job description for the SYSTEM EDUCATOR position at South Central Health System?
The System Educator works under the supervision of the Director of Regulatory Compliance on the management, coordination, and implementation of hospital-wide nursing orientation and staff development as determined by evidence-based practice, standards of care, and regulatory requirements.

- Core Duties:
o Conducts non-licensed and licensed general nursing orientation for new hospital nursing staff.
o Enrolls and fingerprints new licensed staff and students in Omnicell.
o Develops staff education courses in HealthStream and/or conducts unit-to-unit in-services to address new policies, procedures, equipment, or identified needs.
o Maintains American Red Cross BLS and ACLS instructor certification; conducts BLS/ACLS/PALS skills checkoffs.
o Conducts basic cardiac rhythm identification course quarterly or as needed.
o Maintains ARC manikins and supplies for HeartCode Lab (change manikin batteries when used, lungs, cleaning supplies, updates, etc.)
o Conducts nursing students’ Cerner orientation each semester and as needed.
o Reviews/makes suggested revisions to nursing policies and procedures as needed.
o Conducts in-services/staff development to off-site facilities as requested.
o Develops/revises nursing orientation courses in HealthStream annually and as needed.
o Meet with various vendors regarding new supplies/equipment..
o Creates vendor in-service sheets to expedite communication between the involved units and vendors.
o Develops nursing annual clinical skills review in HealthStream and classroom setting when appropriate.
o Inventories out-of-date supplies for classroom/in-service purposes; disperse extras to schools of nursing, paramedic program, DO program, etc.
o Reads/reviews medical and nursing journals for best practices, standards of care, etc.
o Confers with the MS Board of Nursing regarding scope of practice issues as needed.
o Conducts individual staff remediation/review of policies and procedures when staff referred by directors.
o Serves as clinical resource to Materiel’s Management regarding clinical supply substitutions when current product is back ordered or unavailable.

- Minimum Requirements: Current RN license by the Mississippi Board of Nursing. BLS/ACLS/PALS instructor certification (can be obtained after hire). Must be able to read, write, and understand verbal and written communication.
