JOB SUMMARY

Job Class:         281 Monitor Tech/ Unit Clerk

Department:     6101 1 West 6200 ICU

Minimum Qualifications:  Prefer HS Diploma or GED. Must be able to read, write and understand written and verbal communication. Basic Computer skills.

Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:

Consistently demonstrates required duties when providing patient care as evidenced by:

Accurately identifying normal and abnormal EKG rhythm strips.

Notifying nursing personnel of EKG changes.

Notifying appropriate nursing personnel of patient requests.

Remain composed, reassuring and able to provide direction during emergency situations, STAT requests and orders: functioning as a calming influence and stable factor on the nursing unit.

Consistently demonstrates appropriate quantity of work as evidenced by:

Promptly post EKG strips on routine basis.

Completing all assigned duties.

Demonstrating the ability to adapt to changes in the workload as required in view of patient census fluctuations and staffing levels; always using time productively.

Participate in quality measures as indicated in performance dashboard results.

Being responsible for the completion of all daily clerical work assignments by the end of the assigned shift, without interference to the quality of work.

Regularly performing well in an emergency situation under the direction of RN; demonstrating knowledge and planned use of emergency procedures.

Consistently demonstrate a willingness to help out on the work that needs to be done; being willing to stay late to finish patient care responsibilities.

Demonstrate through work performed a knowledge of policies and procedures of the hospital and nursing department as evidenced by:

Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of EKG rhythms, both normal and abnormal.

Knowing responsibilities in a cardiac arrest.

Demonstrating a comprehensive knowledge of EKG monitoring and telemetry systems.

Demonstrating attendance and reliability as evidenced by:  Willing to adjust personal schedule in case of a real department need (work late, work extra shift).
