What are the responsibilities and job description for the Executive Director position at South Central TN Development District?
This position is under the general direction of the Board of Directors of the South Central TN Development District. The Executive Director maintains overall responsibility for the management, development, implementation and administration of the programs and policies of the South Central TN Development District.
Examples of Work Performed:
- Provide visionary leadership in directing the preparation of overall development strategies for the utilization of the development district's potential.
- Foster a positive and collaborative organizational culture.
- Oversee the daily operations of the SCTDD, including budgeting, staffing and program management.
- Oversee the periodic review and update of the strategic plan to ensure achievement of the SCTDD’s mission and goals.
- Identify and design solutions to the SCTDD's problems and initiate and assist in implementation of programs, including business retention and expansion, workforce development, infrastructure improvements, etc,
- Direct the coordination of plans, programs and activities that involve multiple units of government in the SCTDD area.
- Advocate for policies and initiatives that support economic growth and development.
- Build and maintain strong relationship with key stakeholders, including government officials, businesses, government agencies, community organizations and educational institutions within the district.
- Direct and provide technical assistance to those seeking aid or information from other levels of governments.
- Identify, pursue and administer grant funding opportunities.
- Direct the preparation and implementation of public relations activities concerning the purposes of the development district and the need for comprehensive development programs.
- Provide concise overall direction to the duties of the professional and clerical staff members.
- Ensure the preparation and administration of operational and fair, impartial personnel policies and procedures.
- Hires, promotes and assigns staff.
- Oversee the development and review of budgets, financial reporting, audits and compliance with funding requirements.
- Direct the preparation of administrative and special reports.
- Engage the community in the economic development process through outreach initiatives.
- Support workforce development initiatives to enhance the skills and employability of the district’s residents.
- Perform other work as required.

- Familiar with the South-Central Region of Tennessee.
Qualifications:
· A Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Urban Planning, Economic Development, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
· Experience in administration, economic development and planning activities, with at least 4 years of experience in a leadership role.
· Strong leadership, analytical, management, problem solving and organizational skills.
· Excellent communication, interpersonal and networking abilities.
· Knowledge of economic development principles, practices and funding sources.
· Proven track record of successful economic development planning and implementation.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check. Must provide valid Tennessee Driver’s License and proof of vehicle insurance with at least $250,000 limit of liability coverage.
